Understanding the Unfathomable

Growing up in the Christian faith I have believed many things just because its how things have always been. I can tell you what certain terms mean, what certain theology is and why we believe it, but making it so someone can understand is not always the easiest task. As a kids pastor I have to constantly think of ways to explain abstract ideas such as the baptism in the Holy Spirit and the trinity. Let me tell you something, it is hard. The human mind is incapable of fully understanding exactly how God can be three distinct forms yet one whole entity. It seems insane that one moment you only spoke English (or whatever language you speak) and then the next minute God has filled you with His Spirit and gave you a spiritual language that you can use at any point to bring edification. I am constantly reminded of the scriptures when Paul said that we look through a glass dimly. 1 Corinthians 13:12 explains this perfectly:

“Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.”

When you take a glass filled with water and put a spoon inside it the spoon looks distorted and bigger than it really is. In the same way, when we look through human eyes we have a distorted view of the world. When we look through these eyes concepts such as the Holy Spirit and the Trinity seem like insanity because we are unable to see a clear picture. But when you put on the eyes of Christ, it brings clarity to the grimiest waters. When we look through the eyes of Jesus we can begin to understand the unfathomable.
We serve a God who makes the impossible, possible. Our God is supernatural and when nature says “no” He says “yes”. When a doctor tells someone they have 2 months to live, my God is bigger and capable to bring miracles. I am so glad that God’s power is far greater than any humans’ ability. He is the I AM. He is the beginning and the end.  The Good Shepherd. The Way and the TRUTH and the Life. Whatever  I need, He is and always will be.

My challenge is that when you read scripture to ask God to help you see through His eyes and not the eyes of the world. I truly believe that when we study, pray and seek answers God wants to give us revelations. Just like the scriptures say, ASK and you WILL receive. I truly and honestly believe that God wants us to know Him more deeply every single day. He wants to tell us the deepest desires of His heart. He wants us to know Him more intimately so that we can truly live our lives like Jesus. I don’t know about you but I no longer want to live in my ability, but I want to live in His capabilities. I want to understand the unfathomable.
